Etymology

A diminutive form of חָתוּל‎ (chatúl, “a cat”) formed by repeating the last two consonants, ־תל. Compare with כְּלַבְלַב‎ (k'lavláv, “a doggy; a puppy”) formed from כֶּלֶב‎ (“dog”).
