From the root ג־מ־ל (g-m-l), in the qatélet pattern usually forming nouns relating to diseases but not always ((e.g. טַיֶּסֶת (tayéset, “squadron”), שַׁלֶּכֶת (shalékhet, “fall (autumn leaves)”) and צַנֶּרֶת (tsanéret, “pipeline”)) and not in this case.
