Etymology
From Old Turkic jalγuz, jalïŋuz, jalŋuz, etc., from Proto-Turkic *jạlɨŋ (“naked; lone, solitary”).
The development of medial consonant cluster -lğ- → -ŋğ- is paralleled in Tuvan (чаңгыс (čaŋgıs)), and Kyrgyz, Karachay-Balkar (жаңгыз (cañgız)), etc.
