Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *adak (“leg”); however, not a regular Kypchak development thereof (which is in fact аяҡ (ayaq)), but apparently a (now extinct) collateral branch with a peculiar semantic shift.
In Bashkir, most probably retained from a medieval Turkic literary language, such as Chagatay.
