φάρυγξ
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- φάρυξ (phárux)
Etymology
Unknown. Could be related to φᾶρος (phâros, “cloth, cloak”). Also compare Latin frūmen and Old Armenian երբուծ (erbuc). However, the -γγ- argues for a Pre-Greek origin. Compare λάρυγξ (lárunx).
