Etymology
For *τέμανος, with assimilation, from Proto-Indo-European *temh₂nos, from *temh₂- (“to cut”); whence τέμνω (témnō, “I cut”). Confer with τέμαχος (témakhos). Cognate with Mycenaean Greek 𐀳𐀕𐀜 (te-me-no).
