From Old Aramaic שושמא (šūššmā), shortening of שומשומא (šumššemā), from Akkadian (Assyrian) [script needed] (šamaššammū), [script needed] (šamaššammi, literally “oil plant”), compound of [script needed] (šaman, “oil”) and [script needed] (šammu, “plant”).
