Shaktoolik


Shaktoolik is a very small village along Norton Sound. This community has been moved twice because of encroaching seas, a result of global warming that has melted a lot of Arctic ice.

You can get in via:

  • the Iditarod Trail, which is recommended
  • the Shaktoolik Airport can also be used

  • Ungalik, a place to stop if heading west on the Iditarod Trail
  • Unalakleet, a fairly large town, if going east along the Iditarod Trail. This town is about 25 miles south-southeast of Shaktoolik.
