North Burkina Faso

North Burkina Faso is the Sahelian region of Burkina Faso, along the border of Mali and Niger.

WARNING: Parts of Northern Burkina Faso are not safe to visit at present. The Australian Government recommends against all travel to areas north of the towns of Djibo and Dori, due to the risk of kidnapping and terrorist attack, including from Al-Qa'ida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), which targets foreigners. AQIM has also taken a number of hostages from remote areas in neighbouring countries.

On 4 April 2015, an foreign mine worker was kidnapped from the Tambao manganese mine in this area of the country.

The Australian Government, and other governments, may not be able to offer normal consular assistance in this part of Burkina Faso.
