Arromanches-les-Bains
Arromanches-les-Bains is a seaside village near Bayeux in Normandy among the D-Day beaches.
Understand
On D-Day (June 6, 1944), Arromanches was part of Gold Beach, one of the main landing sites for British forces. There are a number of museums and monuments; see the link for details.
A few days later Arromanches was the site of a "mulberry harbour", an artificial port constructed by the Allies using concrete pontoons towed over from England; parts of it can still be seen and there is a museum.
