Hermann Otto Sleumer (1906–1993) was a botanist born in Saarbrücken, Germany. He studied pharmacy at Tübingen and Munich and later completed his doctoral studies at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg. He worked in Germany (Berlin), Argentina, the United States of America, and the Netherlands, retiring from the Rijksherbarium in 1971. He studied many families, especially Flacourtiaceae (now Achariaceae, Salicaceae, and Samydaceae), Ericaceae, Icacinaceae, and Olacaceae.[1]

The standard author abbreviation Sleumer is used to indicate him as the author when citing a botanical name.[2]
