Lycianthes acapulcensis is a nightshade relative native from Mexico to Nicaragua. It has pale lavender flowers followed by elongated grape-sized berries that ripen to purple-black. They are not often eaten because not not the most flavorful, said formerly to have been more popular well-cooked for consumption in its native areas.
