sensu lato: in Australia and adjacent regions probably 4–5 or more native species: Salsola australis R.Br., Salsola macrophylla R.Br., Salsola brachypteris Moq., Salsola sabrinae Mosyakin, and Salsola australis var. strobilifera (Benth.) Domin. The presence of introduced Eurasian species cannot be excluded as well. (Mosyakin, 2018)
