Great-grandson of James Sowerby, grandson of George Brettingham Sowerby I, son of George Brettingham Sowerby II, grandnephew of James de Carle Sowerby and Charles Edward Sowerby, cousin once removed of James Sowerby and John Edward Sowerby, 2nd cousin once removed of Arthur de Carle Sowerby.
