Francis Buchanan-Hamilton (February 15, 1762 – June 15, 1829), Scottish physician who made significant contributions as a geographer, zoologist, and botanist while living in India.

IPNI standard form: Buch.-Ham. is used when published in the field of botany. In zoology and particularly ichthyology Hamilton is used instead.

After his elder brother's death, the maternal inheritance fell to him, but to claim it, he needed to change his last name.
