formerly often included in Beta (still in Hassler 2018). Deep genetic differentiation revealed by Kadereit et al. (2006) and Romeiras et al. (2016).
Thulin et al. (2010) proposed to treat all members of Patellifolia as a single variable species, Patellifolia procumbens (sensu lato). This is followed by The Plant List and Euro+Med Plantbase.
Romeiras et al. (2016) give reasons for 3 distinct species.
