- Holotype: UERJ.MC 2
- Type locality: CIMPOR quarry (former ‘Atol quarry’) located 6.7 km WNW from the city of Sao Miguel dos Campos, Alagoas State, Northeastern Brazil (09° 45' 38" S : 36° 09' 22" W).
- Etymology: Atol, from the former name of the type locality (Atol quarry); chelys, an ancient Greek tortoise-shell lyre, generally used to designate ‘turtle’. Lepida (fem.) from Latin: pleasant, charming, witty.
