The town square and the bright orange trees
with their round and sunny fruit.
The tumult of little schoolchildren
who, on chaotically leaving school,
fill the shaded air of the square
with the din of new voices.
O, childish happiness in the corners
of the dead cities!...
And something of our past, that we still
see roaming these old streets!
