She brings a new earthenware cup, and gives in it half a log (pint) of water from the bath for the cohen's feet; Rabbi Yehudah says: A quarter; just we shorten in writing, so too we shorten in water. They enter the sanctuary and turn to the right, and there is a place one cubit by one cubit, and it contains a flagstone of marble which is affixed with a ring; and this they lift, and gather dust from under it and give it, enough to be seen in the water; like it states: (Numbers 5:17) "and from the dirt that was on the ground of the Mishkan the cohen will take and give it to the water."
