SAVONA, LAURENCE WILLIAM of (fl. 1485), a Franciscan of London, graduated D.D. at Cambridge, where in 1478 he wrote his ‘Margarita Eloquentiæ,’ in three books. This was printed at St. Albans, 4to, 1480, under the patronage of Edward IV, and reprinted at Cambridge by John Siberch 1521. The title-page of this latter edition is reproduced by Ames as ‘a specimen of the first printing at Oxford and Cambridge.’ In 1485 he wrote ‘Triumphus Amoris Domini Jesu Christi’ (extant in Lambeth MS. 450), to which he prefixed a dedicatory letter to Waynflete.
