bia, comrade of the Grand Army of the Republic, a member of the "United States Naval Institute, of the Metropolitan and Chevy Chase
clubs, of the National Geographic Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, of the United States Naval Athletic Association and of the Society of American Wars. He is affiliated with the Presbyterian denomination. To young men he says: "Be temperate, truthful, honest, industrious and reliable. Whatever you find to do, strive to do it a little better than any one else."
He was married to Helen Benedict, November 11, 1884. In 1906 they had one daughter, Ruth Francis, living, having lost one infant child.
