Beard, John. An English singer of celebrity. His name first appears in the dramatis per-soiree of Handel's operas performed at Covent Garden in 1736. Beard had his musical education in the Chapel Royal under Bernard Gates He first became a great favorite of the town by his style of singing Galliard's hunting song, "With early horn." His voice was a rich tenor. He died in 1791, in the seventy-fifth year of his age. He was highly esteemed in private life.
