< Castes and Tribes of Southern India
Maleyava.— Recorded, in the Madras Census Report, 1901, as a small Canarese-speaking caste of beggars. In the South Canara Manual, it is stated that they are "classed as mendicants, as there is a small body of Malayalam gypsies of that name. But there may have been some confusion with Malava and Malē Kudiya."
