BRINKERHOFF, Jacob, jurist, b. in New York in 1810; d. in Mansfield, Ohio, 19 July, 1880. He removed early to Plymouth, Ohio, and was elected to congress as a democrat, serving from 4 Dec., 1843 till 3 March, 1847. While in congress he was author of the original draft of the celebrated Wilmot proviso. From 1856 to 1871 he was a judge of the supreme court of Ohio.
