TAYGETUS (Ταΰγετος or Ταΰγετον, mod. St Elias or Pentedaktylon), the highest mountain ridge in the Peloponnese, separating Laconia from Messenia. Height 7900 ft. The highest point is H. Elias; here horses are said to have been sacrificed to Helios.
