Wikibooks:Cleanup

As well as editing, many people at Wikibooks do cleanup. Any user can do most of these things, not just administrators. Cleanup work is important to keep Wikibooks good. Please, help us make Wikibooks a better project!

Category:Wikibooks cleanup contains categorized list of all pages needing some work.

Page transwikis and deletions

Read the deletion rule first. If you are not an admin, use {{delete|reason}}.

  • Speedy deletion - Pages that are bad.
  • Copyright violations (automatically put in speedy delete category after 7 days)
  • Pages to be transwikied - Pages that are to be transfered to another wiki.
  • Requests for import - Pages to be imported into this wiki.
  • Transwiki log - Content that has been moved to Wikibooks from another wiki and needs to be formatted or edited before it is ready for use in an existing book or as a new book.
  • Requests for deletion - for discussion of books that should possibly be deleted but are not speedy deletion candidates
Organize Books
  • Uncategorized Pages - Pages that have not been organized yet.
  • Uncategorized Categories Categories that aren't categorized yet. The only uncategorized category should be Category:Main Page.
  • Uncategorized Templates Templates that aren't categorized.
  • Uncategorized Images Images that aren't categorized.

For these tasks, see Wikibooks:CCO Resources.

  • LOC: Uncategorized Books that aren't properly categorized for WB:LOC.

  • Alphabetical: Uncategorized Books that aren't properly categorized for WB:ABC.
Fix pages
  • Pages needing attention and Modules needing cleanup need work like fixing wikicode, spelling, layout etc.
  • Lonely pages are not linked to by any other pages. They often contain old vandalism, useless content or their content was copied elsewhere. If they are useful, link them to a bookshelf or other book. Otherwise tag them for deletion.
  • Short pages - if page is blank and not linked (check "What links here") and was not vandalised (check page history), it can be safely deleted
  • Duplicate modules
  • Queried pages - If it appears that a stub was created in error or want to check with the author to see if it will soon be expanded, use the template {{qr-em}} to tag it; the page will be automatically listed in the speedy deletions after 7 days.
  • Stubs might be fixed. Old stubs may be removed or submitted to WB:RFD. See Help:Stub.
  • Books to be merged
  • Books waiting to be added to a bookshelf
  • Books needing naming convention change
  • Broken redirects
  • Double redirects
Recent-changes patrolling
  • Upload log - check if new images are not copyright violations, use {{copyvio|URL}}. If you find image without source or license, useTemplate:Tlxs. For invalid fair use claims, use Template:Tlxs. For fair use claims without a rationale, use Template:Tlxs. Make sure you notify uploaders; appropriate code is given on the aforementioned templates.
  • New pages - check for very short pages, use {{delete}} to mark nonsense, vandalism, and spam for deletion.
  • Recent changes of anonymous users - first place to look for spam and vandalism. If you find good edits by anonymous users, add {{anon}} or {{joinus}} to their talk pages to encourage them to create accounts here.
  • Newbies contributions - verify edits by new users, insert {{welcome}} to welcome them (we don't add welcome text to users without any edits).
  • Unused files Look for duplicates, nonsense and copyright violations
