I have Electrum 3.1.3 (windows) installed with an encrypted wallet, which is accessed over a VPN.
The Issue:
I accidentally opened the Electrum program without VPN protection, but the encrypted wallet (default_wallet) wasn't opened (i.e. I didn't enter the wallet password to open it).
So, is there a chance that the wallet addresses got relayed to electrum nodes with my non-VPN ip-address and in turn got compromised?
Reason for the question
When the Electrum program was clicked open, a lot of network packets were send & received, even though the wallet wasn't open.
I am using full wallet encryption, but as I stated, the moment I open Electrum (not the wallet) network packet activity is recognized, packets are being sent and received. So, in short just opening Electrum on my computer starts network activity (prior to opening of Electrum everything was zero, no packets received/sent), now the question is who/what does Electrum connect to, if there is a full wallet encryption. – mesumosu – 2018-10-06T11:47:47.997
It's probably downloading block headers from electrum servers. This does not reveal any private info. Like I said if the wallet file is encrypted electrum itself does not know your addresses until you provide the decryption password. – Abdussamad – 2018-10-06T14:00:39.103
