I am a complete newbie, just started claymore gpu zcash miner. Has run for 2 days, accumulated shares keep ticking up. No coins yet. But if I close down the pc, and start claymore again, will I have lost the accumulated shares ?

You don't "accumulate" shares.
The share count is displayed since the start of the miner program and you can't "lose" them.
