i created these wallet.dat files on an offline machine in 2014 using QT. I've sent coins to the receiving addies over the years. these files are bip38 encrypted. do i need to do anything to these files to keep them usable and viable? if so, what? additionally, what is the argument against this form of cold storage? thanks so much.
1thanks Roman! couple more ?s.... do i need to worry about upgrades to QT? i also need to figure out the best way to take a wallet.dat file out of cs to spend/sell but i know there are many threads on that topic. that being said, what is your preferred method? any pitfalls to avoid? thanks again. – user37340 – 2016-06-05T18:47:46.517
Do not worry about future upgrades to QT as they will have backwards compatibility with your wallet.dat. My preferred method is a hardware wallet as it combines security with usability. – Roman – 2016-06-08T20:03:10.733
